District Conference Pictures

There was much fun to be had at the District Conference that was held in Cornwall, ON. Seven members were fortunate enough to be able to go and everyone had a great time.
During lunch, Richard 'Dick' Pound gave a presentation on Ethics & Drugs in Sports.

Halloween Events, part 2

I just got a call from Shriner's yesterday, and unfortunately we are not going in for Bingo, etc. next Friday. Apparently they currently have a really small group, most of whom do not stay on Friday evenings anyways, so they are having their Halloween activities a different night next week. I was told there is no need for us to come in, as they have so few people who will be there.

As an alternative, we discussed maybe having some people go in around the holidays... nothing is confirmed yet but it is a possibility we can think about depending on exams.

Trick-or-eat is still happening, so if anybody is interested in participating in that, let me know and we'll get you a route for next Friday!

Montclair Residence Trip # 2

A group of us went to volunteer at the Montclair residence yesterday and had a fabulous time! After some good ol' bean-bag tossing (a true favourite among the residents - refer to the pictures and video below) and a hearty game of BINGO, time flew by! It was truly an eventful trip to Montclair - can anyone say O64?... BINGO!

Abby announcing while Melissa watches on intently.

We don't know it yet in this picture but Man-Yi is handing over bean-bags to the woman who will soon be crowned the ultimate bean-bag toss champion. She had a mean throw that could "knock down the house" (quote by another of the residents who participated in the competition).

Ready-set-go! Here we have another resident preparing for her throw as Audrey cheers her on.

This is Margaret, the volunteer coordinator and one of the elderly caretakers (though you can't tell from this angle) - she was one of the participants in the bean-bag toss as well.
Tea time after a tiring, but fun game of bean-bag toss and Bingo-calling.

The minute we saw this swing-chair-table-thing outside of Montclair, we had to try it out. Best 45 seconds of my life. No joke.

And to save the best for last: the video!
(the quality isn't superb but it was shot on a camera phone - sorry!)

Halloween Events

1) 'Trick or Eat' - this is mainly coordinated by Meal Exchange but we have participated in it the past few years. On the 31st, groups of 2 (or more) people are assigned a route somewhere in Montreal (for example, NDG or Westmount) and you go trick-or-treating; but instead of collecting candy, you collect canned food. Don't worry, there is a car/van to collect the cans, you don't have to carry a heavy bag for two hours! It starts at 5:30, and generally lasts for 2 hours or so. Plus you get to wear a costume. We will ask for one route, so everyone who signs up will go as a big Rotaract group.

2) Shriner's Hospital - Every year we also go to the Shriner's Hospital on the 31st in the evening, and play games/do other fun activities with the children there. Of course, we dress up in Halloween costumes, and in the past it has been a ton of fun to go! Like trick-or-eat, we will probably start around 5 or 5:30, and it will last a few hours max.

Both of these events are evening time, so you will be back downtown/home in plenty of time to go out to other Halloween events you may have planned.
If you are interested in coming to either event (unfortunately they fall at the same time, so you have to pick only one), please leave your name in the comments and specify which event you are interested in!

OBM!

Hi everyone,

Our third OBM of the semester will be on Saturday, October 25th. Same deal as before, we are looking for 10 people max, we'll be meeting at the Roddick Gates at 3:45 (leaving by 4), or you can meet us at the shelter for 4:30 if it is more convenient.

Please leave your name in the comments to sign up, hope to see you there!

Montclair Trip this Saturday

We'll be heading off to Montclair for our second time this year! I believe a few people showed interest in bringing certain games along with them that would be appropriate for playing with the seniors there (i.e. I'll be bringing Catch Phrase = good times! - other ideas include boardgames, other portable games). Should you be interested, please sign up below and remember to read the transportation instructions as well:

We are going to meet at the McGill College and Sherbrooke bus 24 bus stop to catch the 1:05pm bus. If you are not there, unfortunately we as we group will leave without out you, as we need to get to the residence on time (2:00pm). We will catch the 24, get off at Sherbrooke/Decarie, and catch the 102 or the 105 bus (whichever comes first). From that we will get off at Somerled / Walkley (102) or Sherbrooke / King Edward (105) and walk the two blocks to the residence. Note that these buses do not come very often, so it is important that we are on time. If you happen to miss us at the gates at 1:05pm, not to worry - simply take the next 24 that comes, and get off at Sherbrooke/Decarie and take the 105 as it comes much more often. You might be a few minutes late but it's better than not coming at all! With the estimated departure time set at 1:05pm, we are scheduled to arrive at 1:50pm (10 minutes early, just in case).

Some additional information for those of you either travelling by yourself or for future reference:
Montclair Senior Home
4413, av. Montclair
Montreal, QC

Should you go by yourself, simply ring the doorbell and tell them that you're from McGill Rotaract.

We will be done at around 4:00pm and will again make the journey home together.

Remember to sign up in the comments section below if you're interested in coming!

Potluck on October 16th!

During our next meeting on October 16th at 6pm we have decided to have a Rotaract Potluck. For those who are not familiar with this concept, it basically is that everyone should try to bring food to share with everyone else. It's going to be a great way to chat and get to know one another while eating yummy food. So we had a sign up at our last meeting, but if you could not attend and can bring food to this meeting, please leave your name and what you want to bring in the comments section. This is a list of what people signed up for, so we don't have too many duplicates. Nicole requested that someone bring rice for the curry she is making, so that is a suggestion.

Sean Yaphe- Cheese and crackers
Jin Choi- Chips and cookies
Vincenzo M Scarano- Pasta
Abby Carter- Salad
Kally Bowser- veggies and dip
Heather Anderson- Bread bowl and dip
